A 24-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly walked into a Salt Lake City convenience store early Sunday, fired a gun at a locked refrigerator case and stole beer, police reported.

The shooting and alleged theft occurred just before 6 a.m. at a 7-Eleven near 1300 West and Indiana Avenue (830 South), police reported.

When the suspect noticed the cooler was locked he pointed a handgun at the glass front and fired two shots, police reported. He took a 30-pack of beer and left the store running south.

Police located the suspect driving a black SUV near Glendale Plaza. They made a traffic stop, found the gun and the beer in the car and arrested the man on suspicion of theft, discharging a firearm, criminal mischief and carrying a concealed weapon.

I suppose there are harder ways to get beer.
Poor guy, after all that work, the police took the beer.

seems to me like the bonehead wasted ammo - if it was a glass door on the cooler, smacking it with the gun would have been a quieter option!

Not charged with Robbery? Maybe the cooler didn't feel threatened..

I wonder how the clerk felt.

Seems to me the front sight might make a good window punch.
