"Kontz said Initial reports are that Gable was cleaning the .45-caliber service revolver when it discharged. Protocol calls for weapons to be unloaded before cleaning begins, he said."

One would certainly hope so.

Perhaps this explains why it happens--they need protocol to tell them to unload it. It is for the same reason that I get nervous in restaurant bathrooms when I see a sign that says "Employees must wash hands..."

I'm not a gambling man, but I'd bet the .45 caliber in question is a Glock 21, which you have to press the trigger to disassemble.

Not the gun's fault. Too bad he has to learn safe gun handling the hard way. I hope he wasn't seriously hurt and will receive appropriate remedial training.

Well he did say "Service Revolver" but with today's journalists, who knows?

I've seen the press make bigger mistakes than confusing types of pistols.
