A man who showed up at the Moreno Valley Mall on Thursday with a ski mask and a pellet gun shot four people, but no one was seriously injured, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The man started shooting people with the pellet gun around 11 a.m. at the mall at 22500 Town Circle Drive, said sheriff's Sgt. Don Goodrich.

"The guy shows up out of nowhere wearing a dark ski mask, blue pants and a blue or green, long-sleeved shirt," said Goodrich.

He walked quickly through, shooting at least four people, two of them employees at a kiosk.

He was last seen entering the adjacent cinema, into one of the theaters and presumably, said Goodrich, out an emergency exit.

The victims were bruised by the pellets, the sergeant said.

Anyone with information about the man was asked to call investigators at 951-486-6700.

It was an Assult-Pellet Gun!

I can't help but think what would be running through my mind if I were their and carrying. I would think I would notice it was a pellet rifle by the sound.

That's a scary thought. Now imagine if he hadn't fired it yet and you were the first one he pointed it at. Consider also that your auditory response is going to shut down as soon as adrenaline kicks in, meaning you won't hear things accurately...not good.

He wanted to have the same (false) feeling of power that other mall shooters have had. He used it because it looked like a real gun (which he probably couldnt afford or steal). He wanted to instill fear in people and hurt them. If I was there and didnt know it was a toy and it was pointed at me or mine, I know what I would do.

I think he's VERY lucky he didn't pull that on the wrong person. I think most people who carry would react to GUN, and act accordingly if it were pointed at them.

I agree with the statement made about not being able to react to the sound due to adrenaline. With the adrenaline rush, you could probably even get shot once or twice first and still not resister it as a pellet gun before responding with lethal force. You can bet that if he pulled that stunt on a police officer he'd probably be dead right now.

Okay, show of hands: how many people would have kicked this morons ass even after it was evident he was only using a pellet gun?

I think a smack upside the head with those sap-knuckled gloves you can buy at Streichers might have been in order.

Ahhh...Cyanide and Happiness. I haven't seen that one though. I should read through everything, again, one of these days.

Dry run? I hope not. But we all know that hope is not a strategy.
