I start screaming for the police immediately, while disabling my attacker.
Any crook can steal a guard's uniform. A real security guard would never attack me without cause, so this guy is obviously a phony.

Well said SethB.
I gotta say, the guys that have said ya should'nay ever let anyone get within "jumping on ya" distance have got it spot on. Uniform or gang colors it is not a bit different.
I view the guys with rental badges same as somebody wearing colors. . . probably incopetent, definitetly short on mental diciplines, over equipped and under trained.
Mall guards are the first to be sacrificed, after that. . . . mine is all about seeing the next day.

But if it was someone that had stolen a uniform and was impersonating a security guard to shake people down, I don't think he would scream gun as he attacked you. I could believe an imposter would calmly walk up to you and request you surrender you gun, but I would think he would do it discretely.
Now a real security guard I could see him yelling gun because he would want to draw attention to the situation.

You try to take my gun and you are NOT a cop with a good reason to take my firearm - you are in for a world of hell.
I was detained once IN A MALL - long story but here is the short of it.
I was involved in a car pedestrian accident - as a first reponder. The accident was at a mall and I was the sole witness to the accident = it is rare that people get there ahead of the ambulance nevertheless witness it.
Anyhow - some time later - I was subpoenaed to go to the scene with an accident reconstruction specialist - we were confrnted with the director of mall security - whom was not really happy with the whole situation due to the malls liability.
There were 5 or so rent a cops there - me - the head weasel - and the accident reconstruction guy - they confronted me an him - and not so politely ordered us off of the property - he asked fr my information and I would not comply - one of his lackies placed his hand on my shoulder from behind and pulled my jacket aside - WHOOPS - there was a fully loaded Browining P35
The one guard shouted GUN at the top of his lungs - everyone backed off and they called the police from there things got really interesting. They encircled us and went almost bonkers - I exclaimed - Dont F'-ing touch me again unless you woul like an ass kicking - I am sure that didnt settle any nerves.... But what the hell I just got assaulted while I was under court order to be there.
Cops were there in a flash - now keep in mind this is NY - not gun friendly - I said nothing to the rent a cops other than the above.
SPD Shows up IN FORCE. Sgt approaches me - keep in mind we are in teh middle of a circle of security officers. Briefly spoke with one of the head aholes and askes me what was with the pistol - I said I was a permit holder and wanted to press assualt and unlawful detainment charges against the mall officer that touched me and ecplained why I was there.
He thought that this was interesting - I told him that we were asked to leave - he asked head ahole what we did to get 86'd - ahole could not give a valid reason - was he going to say "We want to prevent them to conduct a lawful court ordered investigation of an incident that we are liable for" No he basically said nothing.
Cops seperated us and we told them the story - they were very unhappy with the mall people - very unhappy with the fact that we were detained and harrassed for nothing - I was there under COURT ORDER
They NEVER ASKED TO SEE MY PERMIT - took a report and charged the mall security chief with OBSTRUCTION OF GOVERNMENTAL PROCESS and took him into CUSTODY... He knew why we were there - he was told that we would be there.
The Security Guard that touched me was ARRESTED as well for Obstruction...
In open court this all came out that the mall tried to cover up and deny access to investigation of the accident. You see the PD was pissed at the mall anyhow - pissed off about how they handled this accident to begin with - and really pissed off that they were detaining people there UNDER COURT ORDER. The investigator that I was with was an officer of the court......!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I should scan and post the transcript of my testimony ont eh stand - tells the story better than I can now.
Long and the short of it - BEWARE of security people - marginal skill marginal knowledge - and operate often on the edge of the law.
scary.
PS the Plaitiff won a 9 million dollar judgement against the mall based upon my testimony. The Chief A'Hole was booked on obstruction and charged - plead guilty - was fined and served probation for 1 year......
Security Guard was fired - and no formal charges were filed.
As for me.... Well that is another story....

Gotta love a story with a happy ending.
Sounds like the mall security boys were actually the village idiots.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
If I'm being attacked, the attacker is a bad guy. I'm not going to risk myself by worrying about him; if he were worried about himself, he wouldn't be attacking me.

Didn't mean to imply you should not defend yourself............just that a real security guard could attack for no reason after he wacks out because of a fight with the spouse/boss /whatever

Sure; but someone who attacks me is a bad guy, and I don't care what his day job is.

If they want to search your person, repeat #1. 4. If they persist, pull out your cell phone (or use theirs) and say, "I'm calling the police". No ifs, ands, or buts about it - they pressed the issue, so now they suffer the consequences. Also, call your lawyer if you have one on retainer. 5. Wait until the cops arrive and let management experience egg on their face. matt160, I think you missed the part of the scenario of "The guard jumps you and starts yelling “GUN! GUN! GUN!” and is attempting to disarm you"Your #1, #2, #3, #4 and #5, might be a bit difficult as you are wrestling with this idiot who is attempting to disarm you, along with a few bystanders who are helping him. I just copied all the above from packing.org
