MARSHALL, Minn. — The search continued Tuesday for a man believed to be involved in the drive-by shooting of the new student center at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
One man, Ryan Madland, 25, was charged Monday with drive-by shooting, reckless discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property. Bail was set at $100,000.

"I understand how serious this is,'' Madland said in Lyon County District Court. He told the judge that he had been an SMSU student until recently.

According to the criminal complaint, Madland told investigators he drove the car but that a friend did all the shooting. He also said that no harm was intended and he thought they were using a pellet gun.

No one was hurt early Saturday morning when someone fired at least five bullets into a building occupied by students, faculty and alumni. The damage was estimated at about $10,000.

The police report on the shooting said at least one bullet hit a rack of gift cards, another landed behind a desk, another bounced around inside the building and another fell just inside a window.

Police reported the individualized learning center building was also shot.
