That guys almost as dumb as a Ssgt. of mine while in Okinawa...
She came off the pistol range and was next in line to hand her weapon in to the armory. Before the armorer would accept a handgun, he would have to see it dry fired into the clearing barrel.
Well you've probably guessed by now what happened when the hammer fell. The thing is, she pulled the trigger 3 more times. While this is a far funner way to empty your magazine than hand stripping the rounds out, it's generally frowned upon in the armory compound. It took a Marine 4 pay grades her junior to convince her to remove her mag (still containing 5 rounds), rack the slide (ejecting another round), and then give the barrel another try...
Mind you, this is the same Ssgt. that saluted the Battalion C.O. with her left hand during a formation in which she was being awarded a Good Conduct Medal only a month before.
She was what we called one of our "ten percenters"...
