My favorite -- and I've heard this in at least three different gunshops, and at least twice from cops in gunshops:
"If he falls down outside your house, drag him back in."

I have an uncle that took CCW class here in MN thru his employer. The instructor was a retired cop and was telling the class things similar to that

I don't think I can call Gander Mountain a "gun shop" but here it goes ...
Gander Mtn (Woodbury):
Guy working the counter advises potential handgun buyer (for ccw) not to go more powerful than .380 because "you don't want to blow the shit out of anyone". I later say to the guy the purpose isn't to "blow the shit" out of anyone, but to stop an attack. The guy [behind the counter] replies that police can carry 9mm or .40 because they have bullets "that don't penetrate walls".
Galyans (now Dicks - Woodbury):
Back when Dick's was Galyans, the Woodbury Galyans had the most ignorant gun counter people I've ever encountered ... which would be easily forgiveable were it not for the fact that they seemed to have a curious hubris about being behind the counter as if that made them expert. There was no question about the handguns that they could answer but described all handguns alike with the same few canned lines they were taught by the department manager.
Shoot safe,

I don't remember what was said exactly, but I had a similar experience with a Gander Mountain. I was looking at a karh p40 in the cabinet and had mentioned that that slim profile would be nice for ccw and he started on this rhetoric about .32 is the only thing you should be carrying etc... Then pulled out a beretta .32 (tomcat??) that I could barely hold
It wasn't the woodbury location though...

Wow, a .32.
Can't you stop that by plugging the barrel with your finger?

You don't teach this in your class?

Reminds me of the scene in the movie Blazing Saddles, where they had to deal with Mongo. Someone suggested shooting him, and Gene Wilder's characters said something to the effect of "Oh, don't shoot him. It just makes him mad".

I live about a half mile from the original Galyan's. The people at (what was) the original store are pretty sharp. People in other stores...aren't.

I bring this up in every class by saying "How many of you have heard...." nearly everyone has heard that. Then I ask how many people have ever dragged a deer, then I suggest that it probably wouldn't take CSI to figure out someone was shot in the back yard. It usually gets a chuckle.

If they are breaking into my house, I'm not gonna be able to drag them back in because the 12 ga will have done far too good a job of scattering the remains into the yard.
Pistols and revolvers are a good compromise between protection and ease of carry, but you don't have to compromise at home.
There's far better tools for the job. I'm partial to benelli's.
