http://news.yahoo.com Top story on Yahoo News right now. Full URL is too long to post here.

Here's a guy who's been arrested for "denying the Holocaust" as per the news article headline. If you read a few paragraphs down from the sensational title, we find that he "challenges the extent of the Holocaust", not that he literally denied it happened. I guess maybe he means that only a few million perished, rather than 12-20 million?

My grandmother was Jewish, BTW.

For all I know, three trillion Jews and 20 bazillion dissidents were killed by Hitler. Hey, those number sound just fine to me. Like I said, my grandmother was Jewish, God rest her soul.

But for challenging the number actually exterminated, he faces up to 20 years in prison. 20 years. You know that Germany only allows 14 years max for murder so in neighboring Austria, you can be sure that 20 years is seen as a pretty severe sentence.

Hey, for all I know, the guy in question is Hitler's child that he spawned through black magic while communing with the Devil ... that he is the most racist, hate mongering person on the planet next to say ... GWB.

But that's not the issue: The issue is the amount of freedom of speech in Europe. I keep hearing about how Euro Laws are so much morally superior to our laws ... how really it is the rest of the world that is free and in America we are just Trogladytes living underground, unaware of and unaffected by civilization.

Did I mention that my Grandmother was Jewish?

You socailists want redistribution of the wealth? You want to be heard? You want to dissent from the party line? Just try it under those circumstances! Just look and see how much real freedom of speech exists in these Socialist utopias.
:x

Europe is headed down the socialist path, soon to be communist or even fascist. Their taxes are outrageous. Their social welfare systems are rampant with abuse, even more so than ours. The Govt pays for a lot of stuff that we, as Americans, pay out of our own pockets. Free speech will soon die in Europe as the right to bear arms has. All one has to do is be aware of the goings on in France, where it is an acceptable practice to burn cars. Apparently, this car burning has been going on for several years, not just the recent events that we have heard on the news.

Yup.
Just as Chicago makes the laws for the rest of IL & downstaters are taxed without representation. . . . Calfornia makes the laws for the rest of the coutry, either by numbers and votes or by controling the media and inundating the population with programs and movies that range from outright propoganda to the insidious (action movies where every gun is full auto & makes things blow up at random, especially wounding an innocent child that happens to be wandering by). . . as much as I enjoyed the show, McGyver was a good example of the first and the film Desperado would be an example of the later.

1. Guns are always bad and random

2. Only bad people and cops have guns

3. Christians are always biggoted and slightly dumb

4. Gays are witty and have fun social lives

5. Gays aren't really granted the same rights as straight people in the U.S. Constitution, therefore we should make special laws to benefit people who have a particular fettish (a same sex fettish specifically, no other fettishes should be protected)

6. your self worth is entirely tied to what you drive

7. You'll feel better if you go out and buy something

8. All politicians are always crooks, but you should vote for the ones that are democrats anyway

9. Screwing aound on your wife with an intern while representing our country to the world and then having multiple cover-ups for your zipper problem is in no way as bad as going to war after a concerted and devestating terrorist attack kills many American civillians.

I could go on. The media seems to pour this stuff out in hopes that people will eventually buy it or at least legislate away the freedoms of those who don't.

By "challenging the extent of the Holocaust", he claims that there were no gas chambers, and no policy of genocide, simply run-of-the-mill slave labor camps and people being worked and starved to death as has happened in many places and times in history.

http://www.nizkor.org/hweb/people/i/irving-david/

Quote:
"I don't see any reason to be tasteful about Auschwitz. It's baloney, it's a legend. Once we admit the fact that it was a brutal slave labour camp and large numbers of people did die, as large numbers of innocent people died elsewhere in the war, why believe the rest of the baloney?" Irving said.

He added, "I say quite tastelessly, in fact, that more women died on the back seat of Edward Kennedy's car at Chappaquiddick than ever died in a gas chamber in Auschwitz."

He went on, "Oh, you think that's tasteless, how about this? There are so many Auschwitz survivors going around, in fact the number increases as the years go past, which is biologically very odd to say the least. Because I'm going to form an Association of Auschwitz survivors, survivors of the Holocaust and other liars, or the ASSHOLS."

(David Irving)

So he's not simply claiming that the Nazis didn't kill as many people as some claim. He's denying the genocide.

That said, criminalizing even offensive and incorrect speech is very troubling.

Yeah, I didn't think this guy was a card carrying member of the anti-defamation league or anything like that ... and I appreciate you digging up what he actually said.

You know, it's common Arab ideology to say that Jews invented the Halocaust. I wonder why it is that this guy faces 20 years in prison for saying something that is spoken often in every Austrian mosque ... unless of course Austrian Muslims are exclusively politically correct Westerners who would rather shop for shoes at Macy's than repeat the jargon of their forbears.

So I guess I'll come out and say that I think Muslims are getting a free ride, that they hate Jewish people and pray for the destruction of that state and this is somehow a-ok as long as they don't engage in domestic terrorism. But, if a national were to say exactly the same thing ... then we see in this news article what happens. I think this is de-facto state sponsored racism when one group of people are given immunity.

Did I mention that my grandmother was Jewish?
