According to the news story, they want to get "200 guns off the street".

Note the website above- they have a two gun limit!!!

Wouldn't they want them ALL off the street?

$50 for a revolver, $75 for a semi-auto. I feel discriminated against!

I don't see how they're going to enforce the 2 gun per person limit when everything is anonymous- no ID required.
I bet absolutely nobody has thought about getting in line a few times.
Say if someone just happened to "find" a few pistols, sounds like a good way to make an easy couple Benjamin's.

I'd love to get a peek at the guns they end up with.

If I'd not already blown my discretionary spending budget, I'd consider heading down there and seeing if I could out-bid them.

You might get lucky, but I'll bet the bulk of what will be turned in will be old, rusty or guns with names you'd be hard-pressed to identify.

My thoughts exactly. Sounds like a really good way to turn some useless crap into a couple hundred bucks.
How naieve in thinking can people get? Like they're actually going to disarm themselves.

The location of the "buy back" on Friday is only a mile or two away from Bill's.. I expect to see a few people trying to sell me their fine firearms before dropping them off for 50 bucks.

Hey, squib_joe,

When someone comes in to the gun shop and tries to sell you a gun, how do you make sure it isn't stolen property? Do you call the ATF? The cops?

We don't contact anybody, unless we have a reason to believe it's stolen property.

Crooks generally don't try to sell hot guns at gun shops because they think that guns are "registered" to a particular person (like a car).

Sometimes we'll take lists of particular guns that have recently been stolen so we can keep an eye out for them, either on the retail floor or out on the range.

Were do you get the list of guns that have been recently stolen. It might be useful for those who buy used guns from people as opposed to stores.

I called my county sheriff's office. The deputy I spoke with said that they are glad to run a serial number for me prior to a private party sale.

That's a great service.

Every base I was stationed on did the same thing for any item. Cars to electronics. And if you could even have the drug dog sniff the car you were buying to make sure it was clean.

I have to say, after 11 years of being away, I miss the military bases and areas. I always found good deals on stuff on/around the bases due to someone always being broke. Not to mention, the commissary privileges I can't enjoy here. Also, all of the bases I was stationed at were in more moderate climates.

+1

What I wouldn't give to have one more day on an Okinawa beach or a Saturday at Hiji Falls (sp) followed by a big plate of "Taco, Rice, and Cheese" and a beer in Kin-cho...
