But not silly enough to not repeat it here. At a barbecue last Saturday, my cousin's nephew gave us a "scientific demonstration". After seeing it (and almost darkening my shorts) we all asked him, "they're teaching you that in school?" As the week went on I thought about it more and decided I had to research it. Apparently, science teachers have been demonstrating this for years, but until last weekend I had never knew of it. Here is what he did; I'll leave it up to you to research what the result would be on the internet if you were to do it. As far as I know there is nothing illegal about this, especially if they are doing it in a school setting. The use of safety goggles and gloves are advised.

***Warning*** I am not advocating that anyone actually do this. Repeating the demonstration may result in serious personal injury.

1. Tear five or six 2-inch wide x 8-inch long strips of tinfoil, crinkle them up and place them in a plastic 20oz. pop bottle.

2. Pour in 1/2 cup "The Works" toilet bowel cleaner.

3. Place the cap on the bottle tightly, shake the bottle vigorously several times for no more than 15 seconds and set it on the ground at least 20 feet from any person or object.

The resulting chemical reaction can take as much as five to ten minutes to occur.

yeah, i knew how to make those before i learned it in school. we learned it in school just to show chemical reactions. they dont make it blow up in school though, they make a weaker solution and do it in an open container

How does this differ from a dry ice bomb?

(And did you know you can buy five-pound jugs of Potassium Permanganate at Menards?)

Still got two and a half pounds in my storage shed. How many techniques for its use are you aware of? I can name off two off the top of my head.

Lye + Aluminum liberates hydrogen gas, plus lots of heat. On detonation, the H2 will also burn.

Dry ice is a cold explosion.

You want real fun? Get a junker car, with about 1/4 a tank of gas. Put about an ounce of sodium metal in the tank. Stand back. WAY back.

According to federal laws even something as benign as this could be prosecuted as manufacturing an explosive device.
