A 8 1/2 by 11 laminated piece of paper in the entry way says "Firearms aren't welcome on Northfield city hall property"

Aren't Welcome?
Why not just posta asign that says what it really means.
"We can't do anything about it, be we really don't like it"

The pissy attitude and rudeness you get from the clerks there aren't really "welcome" either!!

I'd bitch to the Council. They shouldn't be putting up a sign unless it's legal.
And whoever put that sign up doesn't represent how everyone else feels about carrying a gun. I'd find out who aurthorized that sign and raise hell about it and get them to take it down..
City's shouldn't be making a "political statement" like that.

I know a deputy who told me that it is getting out of hand down their. Asian gangs were the worst.

I'm not sure the sign is technically illegal. Enforcing a ban might be, but I don't know if that sign in and of itself is breaking any laws. It's a fine line I think.
Maybe if enough concerned citizens got on the agenda for a city council meeting, the issue could be debated. Some group "armed" with the statues citing that they aren't allowed to legally ban guns there that presented theses facts, it would be interesting to see the council's reaction. It may be possible that the poster of that sign doesn't understand the law- but I'd bet on the opposite.

Carleton College, St. Olaf College, need we say more?

I'd make it a point to open carry there, but I'd carry my Ruger P95. He's a tough one, and won't get his feeling hurt when he finds out he's unwelcome.

It sounds like some person or persons in the city administration are trying to express their personal politically correct views. I find this a very offensive and unethical abuse of their position as someone who works for all the taxpayers in Northfield. A complaint should be filed with the city council. A letter to the editor in the local newspaper would also be appropriate to bring this abuse of public position to light in the community.

Was not there some semi-famous left-wing professor of political science at Carleton College?.................

There was a figure recently that 90% of college profesors nationwide consider themselves to be politically liberal as opposed to conservative. I would bet that at Carlton and St. Olaf the liberal percentage is greater. *

One would hope that the political science professors would teach that city and county boards should stick to their duties and not attempt official action on matters that they are not enabled to elected to decide.
