So I go into my local BankWest to get my Utah permit application notirized and as the lady hands me back the completed document she says 'there you go and you know you still will not be able to bring that thing in here'.

I ask her what she means and she points to a 1x6 inch tent sign on the side of the teller booth that says something like BankWest does not permit handguns on the grounds for the safety of it's customers. I chuckled a little and told her that I'd did not want to get a lenghty discussion at the teller line but I actual could carry in the bank and the basically only thing they could do was ask me to leave, and if I complied with their request I would be fine.

She let into that they would just call the police if they saw a handgun and I'd be arrested. I assured her that was not the case and she and management should really read and understand the law before making these kind of statements.

I asked for the manager and was told he was busy.

As I exited I confirmed no signs, by the entrance or any were else outside.

Just the little tent signs by the tellers, has to be one of the dumbest places ideas I've ever seen yet. I mean you walk in main entrance, no sign. You pass through the entry way to a second door, no sign. You stand in the line to wait for a teller, no sign. Then you get up there and they have this tiny little sign up on the side off to the right window. I guess they expect you're going to see it and excuse yourself if your carrying. What idiots.

Guess it's time to change banks.

Do you think she'd point it out to the bank robber?

He'd probably use it to write out his "Give me the money and keep quiet" note.

As I've said before: I'll transfer every nickel of my business to any bank that can demonstrate a robbery was canceled when the robber noted a no guns sign and left without incident. Just one. Anywhere in the U.S. in the last, oh, 100 years. :P

Any bank that wants to ban law abiding citizens from carrying guns in their premises should review what happened in Northfield on September 7, 1876.

I was under the impression that the local banking group said that all of its members should put up signs. I have seen many banks with the signs up, but my own is not posted.

I don't recall seeing any of the Wells Fargo branches I visit posted, either.
I love the part about putting the no guns allowed sign right up by the teller. That one cracks me up.

Actually, if it pans out like that uninformed teller say is would, I'd think it borders on some type of harassment or entrapment.

No warning at all the guns are not welcome, a permit holder legally carries into the bank, gets to the front of the line where a teller sees the gun, pushes the panic botton or otherwise summons the police, who come swat style into the bank, scaring the crap outa everyone.
And only after the pandemonium dies down, the poor law abiding customer is found to be obeying the law to the letter.

That was the funny part about the entire thing, I was wearing my glock 27 in my ankle holster at the time.

If I had nothing to do for a few months a few grand to spare I'd open carry in to the place but my guess is it would cost at least 10-20K to defend my lawful actions and hurt the cause.

I'll just move my business and send the BankWest folks a nice but firm letter.

There are no shortage of banks that aren't posted. I would be moving my accounts ASAP, along with an explanation of why.
