Okay, let's drop the whole letter.

Try something like this:

Quote:
Dear store manager,

I am writing to you regarding the signs posted at the entrances to the Maplewood Mall in Maplewood, MN, where your store is located.

The signs, which say “Maplewood Mall Bans Guns on these Premises,” violate Minnesota Statute 624.714, Subd. 17(e) which states:

A landlord may not restrict the lawful carry or possession of firearms by tenants or their guests.

Not only is the mall suborning your store's individual right to decide about who enters your store, but they are telling over 35,000 law-abiding, background-checked, upper-income Minnesotans that they are not welcome to spend their money at your store.

Is this the message you wish to send?

If it is not, I would encourage you to speak with Mr. Murphy and Mr. Springman about removing this contralegal sign.

Sincerely,

XXXX

cc: Mr. Murphy and Mr. Springman

Send that to the non-posting anchor tenants and a smattering of inside stores. It might have the desired effect.

On the other hand, why should we care about the unenforcable sign? It's good advertising of the fact that we have a permit program! :)

Not to totally resurrect a dead thread, but Maplewood is still posted with nice, big signs at all entrances to the mall and off the anchor stores. My wife pointed them out to me today as we browsed Barnes & Noble (which is NOT signed, for the record). She laughed. I smirked. I love my wife.

How I ended up with her, I have no idea. Must have done something right...now if I only knew what...

I don't have any photos with me, but both Eden Prairie and Northtown have notices in the fine print on their "Rules of Conduct" posters stating that firearms aren't allowed.

I open carried as the wife, kids, and I spoke to 2 EP police officers about the child safety seats they had on display at the mall. No issues, no comments, no gasps.

That being said, I think that since Maplewood has gone the effort to post format-compliant signs (even out of compliance) it is not an ignorance of the law, but a statement.

Open Carry Shopping Event? Bring the wives, we can all hang outside the stores.

If you want to have fun.

Go into a store, pick out everything you were going to buy.
Bring it up to the cash register.
After they ring it up - ask to speak to the manager.
Tell him this is what you were planning to buy, but will not until the mall takes down the signs.
Thank him for his time and then leave.

Yup, I've never had a problem at EP Center. I normally conceal, but I'm not very careful about it. I've been stopped exactly once by an EP officer who politely came up to me and asked, "May I see your carry permit, please?" I said, "Certainly!" and handed it to him. He looked at it, handed it back, said, "Thanks, enjoy your day!" (with a smile, even!) and that was that. :D

Miller Hill Mall (a Simon Property) also has signs banning at all entrances in Duluth, MN.
