Sorry to revive this thread, but I saw the following post on THR by OBIWAN1 (Ohio), regarding a guy whose bank had posted (Texas), and it got me thinking... It's an idea!
Quote: Since they have assumed ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY while on bank property, insist on an armed guard escort from your car, into the bank, and back to your car. I'm about ready to do that to a couple of hospitals here. A friend did that to a mall management company and those signs came down pronto.

I'm about ready to do that to a couple of hospitals here. A friend did that to a mall management company and those signs came down pronto. I'd love to see that work, but I'm skeptical. For one thing, I don't believe that they have, in a legal context, assumed much of any responsibility for your personal safety.
That said, let's try an experiment (play along, if you'd like): every time I go to the MoA, upon leaving, I'll stop off at the front desk and ask for an escort from Security. (Not an armed escort; they wouldn't supply one.)
I won't give a specific reason, particularly NOT the signs, and will use -- over and over again, if necessary -- this exact sentence.
"I just don't feel safe in your parking lots, what with all the robberies around here lately."
At which point their schtick will be to ask for details about the robberies, denying that there have been all that many, to which the response will be:
"Look, whatever you say is fine with me, but I'd still like an escort to my car."
I'll repeat as necessary, and if they resist, give up after about a minute, with "Well, if you folks won't give me an escort, I can't make you."
No further explanation to the security guard, if I'm given an escort.
(Naturally, I'll be carrying my own personal safety equipment discreetly.)
I figure it'll take a couple of dozen repetitions before the Mall management starts to notice something...
Let me know if you're in. If enough people are, I'll start to make it a point to go to the Mall every now and then, rather than to avoid it.

This idea (good idea by the way), sounds a little Strategic... Should this discussion be split off?

I have also been avoiding the MOA , but sure, I could give a try next time.
That'll be a funny look! A 6'4", 210 lb. guy asking for an escort!

Why is it that there are many bars/ places that ban guns and yet, these bars/ places are the most problematic ones?? I can think of one here in Ramsey and another in Minneapolis. Yet, their "security" is apparently a joke at the one in Ramsey.

MOA Signs Have Moved
I was at the MOA yesterday, walked through the front entrance (entrance facing IKEA) and noticed they didn't have signs on their doors anymore. On the way out, I noticed the signs had been moved to the wall between the two sets of doors. Maybe this is old news? I think the signs still fit the definition of "within four feet of an entrance" but they are very inconspicous now.
My kid was there with friends and watched a movie there, didn't get out until after 10:00 PM. He says that as he was waiting for me to arrive, that one person walked up to him and gave him a business card for phone sex, and some other creepy type was following him around. I enjoy shopping but the MOA is definitely a magnet for weirdos.

The signs are supposed to be facing outwards (within 4 feet laterally of the entrance).
I'm not sure we've talked about what is defined as an entrance. Is it each set of doors (MOA usually has 4 sets of double doors)? Or just one bank of doors?
But, I suppose since a mall falls under landlords can't post, we don't need an answer yet.

Here is an idea. I remember something like this was done by CCW activists in Chicago a few years ago.
Get a number of CCW holders (100 would be nice, but even 50 would have an impact) to agree to attend the MOA during certain hours on a specific date.
Next, letters to Mall management and the press informing them that, on this date during these hours 100 CCW holders, who are carrying, will be shopping in the mall.
The mall will have two choices:
1. Ignore the letter and conduct business as usual (good press for us, shows that the MOA's policy is simply an empty gesture, and shows that we are not a threat)
2. Aggressively seek out persons suspected of carrying (bad PR for them, will cause them to hassle customers)
If each of the participants can also agree to spend a certain amount of money at the mall, we could use that to make a point as well.

One more time:
The sign law is toothless.
How much attention do we want to call to this fact? Do we want antis up in arms* demanding that Governor Hatch and the Democratic-majority House and Senate fix this awful "sign loophole" in 2008?
