My carry gun (Taurus 85SS2ULCH) is loaded in pocket holster in a end table drawer....The Beretta 9mm is under the bed in a soft case thats not zipped and the magazine is loaded but just in the magazine well,no round chambered....We have no kids living at home and dont have alot of small children or for that matter big children over,but when they do come the guns get put up in the bedroom closet shelf

Of course all firearms are always treated as if they are loaded.

Having said that there is a location for the ones that have several cartridges in them and there is another location for those that don't.

I like the idea of keeping a loaded "safe gun". Meaning that one of the guns in my safe is loaded while the others are unloaded.

Should anyone ever force me to open my safe for them, I may have a chance at a quick response.

I am a big fan of *always* having a loaded pistol within arms reach. A pocket gun and night stand are wonderful for that.

I can't find the link now, but Mas Ayoob (I think) did a piece for Backwoods Home Magazine where he talked about the necessity of having your weapon <I>right there</i> when BGs come calling. He suggested a modification of the classic <a href=http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=437372 target=new>gun clock</a> or <a href=http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=407947 target=new>gun picture</a> by cutting through the drywall and stowing the gun there then hinging the clock or picture. This avoids the telltale extra thickness of the standard items.

He also suggested a really simple under-table or desk storage scheme. Take a length of 2x2, drill a couple of holes in it spaced such that when you stick dowels in them one dowel will go into the weapon's barrel, and the other will support the grip (you want it spaced so that there is no way for it to accidentally trip the trigger). Attach to the bottom of your table, and you have a weapon out of sight but within easy reach.

The only problem that I was having for keeping a pistol at hand was taking a shower or bath. Every place that I have lived has had the toilet next to the shower. I keep a hand towel on the tank. Covering the pistol with the towel should keep *some* of the steam out of it, but of course have to keep checking it any problems.

The other thing that the towel is useful for is when friends come over and have to do their business. Instead of having a problem of where to put the pistol with ones pants down, it gives a place that won't make a "clunk" when setting the pistol down, and is still in arms reach.

My H&K USP .45 under my bed is loaded in a hard case with two extra mags sitting in the case right along with the pistol. The shotgun in my closet is loaded but if you were to look in my closet you would spend some time looking for the shotgun. My closet is good sized and Ihave tri fold out doors,so I took some rack hangers from work drilled them into the wall right above were the doors open. So all I have to do is open my closet, put my hand above my head and PRESTO my long gun is in my hand. The shotgun in my living room is loaded, I have for the lack of a better word legged walls..... At the top of my wall in my living room there are foot wide ledges that are just at arms reach for me being 6'4. And there is a shotgun loaded in the back closet for my grandmother incase a BG desides to try and B&E into my house when I am not home. Yes I live home with the parents still but I take care of my grandmother, and my family. And only being 23 I still have plenty of time to find a home of my own I can only imagine the set up Im going to have when I own a home Take it easy Minnesota

#2 for me. All guns in the safe would be unloaded, but treated as if loaded.

Mr. SA 1911 is 'cocked & locked' all the time and in the holster.

Mr. Mossberg is hiding in a closet with 5 shells in the tube and chamber empty.

Mr. Yugo M59/66 resides in another closet, unloaded but with one loaded 20 round mag sitting beside him.

#2 for me. My carry XD9 left loaded in the holster right next to the wife's Glock (also loaded but not in a holster) both locked up.

I remember the leather pants from my motorcycle riding days. Made me sweat, especially my man parts.

I never leave a pistol in it's holster. I place it in a gun sock, in the safe.

If a night stand gun is needed, wraped up in a oily cloth.

I have a dehumidifier in the safe also.
