I am a little amped up as just 15 minutes ago, while reading Home Front, by joelr, I am rudely alerted to 3 gunshots on my block. As I quickly call 911 and look out the front door, I see three idiots moving quickly away. Not 10 seconds later, an MPD squad flies by and the chase is on. Within 5 minutes, after throwing on some clothes and going outside, there are 9 cars, just that I can see. They have the 3200 block of Knox and James surrounded and are going yard to yard with several officers carrying either mini-14's or an AR variant. All officers have guns drawn, vest on and one or two have the helmets. They caught 2 of the 3 perps immediately. Damn, I hate gangbangers.

This is the second shots fired within my, for the last 14 years, quiet block in the last 2 months.

Did I mention I hate @#$%^*& gangbangers?

I've been in your area before and was blown away by the fact that such a nice neighborhood could be so close to the shit. Stay safe.

It's sad. I grew up on 35th and humboldt In the 1950s. It was a great place to be. my brother and me would be gone all day and mom never had to worry about us.

I get a lot of gunfire in my neighborhood also but it's in October and mostly November. I always wonder if they got the deer or not. I don't believe that I could adapt to the kind of gunfire that you have to deal with.

That's an interesting coincidence. I'm just re-reading that this week myself. Awesome book, highly recommended.

I'm sad as well. I grew up in the 34th & Newton area, and lived in generally the same area as an adult, until I moved rural about 25 years ago. My family had lived in the Near North Side/Camden area for generations. The Camden area was a very nice middle class area. Very nice homes and nice people. None of my family lives there any longer. We had none of the problems that people of the community deal with today.

Like planting corn, your vote reaps the outcome of those you have chosen. Now enjoy the crop you have sown. An example is Minnesota with 50.0001% supporting the Saturday Night Live Senator, which we know is anti gun. Most pols are pigs in a personal trough.

True to a point, Dean. But in my case I have two small kids and a wife; right or wrong the instinct is to get the hell out of Dodge...I can already see where the natural reply to this post will go but my first duty is to protect my family...fight with the gang-bangers second.

By implying "by running you let the bad guys win" you're not defining the bad guys. If it were just between "us' and the gangs I believe that we could pretty much take care of things within a couple of years. You have to include all of the bad guys like the criminal justice system, the welfare system, liberal politics, one sided diversity celebration, the school systems, and many more bad guys. It's one thing to fight the good fight it's quit another to pick the battles that you can win and in today's urban / metro environment there's just too many bad guys for good guys to win.

What would happen to say a couple of gang members if they beat up a couple of forum members for money. Probation? maybe a year or two served. What would happen to a couple of forum members who beat up a couple gang members because they were gang members? That would be a hate crime and they would serve at least double the time. This battle can't be won. The fix is in.

Well said, gunflint. On a side note, I grew up in Duluth and visit my parents once a month there, it seems no town is exempt from the foolishness of gangbang influence.
