I agree with reaver3 that a short letter (or e-mail) to the Chief that you were pleased with the performance of the officers may be in order.

The decision of the BG to avoid confrontation with the pooch  may well have saved him from making the mistake of having to confront the G22   .

All's well that ends well. 8) Stay safe. :)

+1 Awesome! You responded exactly as you should have. Nice job!
I sure hope this goes on the record that you were a permit holder and you acted accordingly. This will help all permit holders.

Someone call the press!! (not that they would print it)

It would be nice to have documentation that a permit holder did in fact stop a crime from happening.

Nicely done all around, to you for keeping your calm, for the gents at the Minnetonka PD (I know a cop or two in that cities ranks personally; good men), and to the dispatcher who had his/her stuff together and actually gets it when one of us calls 911 about a crime in progress.

Pretty sad we have to write letters praising officers for doing their job properly. Knowbody did anything above & beyond what their suppose to do.
I'm glad everything worked out well, but geesh, that's what we pay the police to do.

If you're so inclined, a written letter to the chief will be copied into the officers' personnel files, and would probably be much appreciated by them.

I would agree normally, however, the response time was over the top excellent. The officers we're more than polite and professional than needed. I've never had to deal with the police in a situation like this and been so blown back by the good work before. Minnetonka has a top notch PD. 8)

Nah.

1. Positive reinforcement is extremely effective with animals, children and government agencies.

2. We criticize when they do wrong, so it's only fair to praise when they do well.

3. If we have to help them see the light on an issue, we are more likely to be heard if they already know us as fair and positive supporters of their good actions.

We are very quick to criticize when people do wrong. Simple fairness demands that we be equally quick to compliment when people do right, and when the magnitude of what they did right is such that, had they done that magnitude of wrong, we'd write a letter, we should do so in praise of their doing right.

I think it is very appropriate to compliment people on a job well done, LEOs included. How many times have you had some asshat wreck your day? A few kind words of appreciation can make someone's day a little better. I see nothing wrong with that. :)

Sure; if there's something wrong with praising somebody for doing his/her job well, I can't figure out what it is.
