This dramatic video

http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2009/01/defense-of-others.html

was posted on a blog I read regularly, "Xavier, Nurse with a Gun". The guy did the right thing and will benefit from Florida's Castle Doctrine law to help defend him from harrassment by the the county prosecutor and the family of the deceased scumbag.

Apparently the person did not have a permit to carry.

Good thing in florida you can carry in your car without a permit.

If there was any doubt he took that away when he was recorded saying he shot the scumbag. That may not have been a wise thing to do but Florida does have the stand your ground law in his favor.

All in all he did a pretty good job given the situation. He should have shut up and gotten off the phone but not too bad. He did provide some information that may have kept him from being shot by police.

I wonder if the BG was DRT?

Practice one-handed shooting!

Man, that's pretty intense. You can really hear the distress in the poor guys voice when speaking to 911. He did the right thing....he probably saved that woman's life. And talk about close range too....he was only a few feet away when he pulled the trigger.

He's was carrying an XD 40....same one I got. NICE GUN!

That was crazy. Obviously he didn't go through the course that I did. First thing pull out the card, give the operator brief information, hand up and call your attorney. :)

The thing I thought was odd is why he didn't check the store clerk to see if she was okay and to make sure the man was down? I guess it's easy to judge when it's not you. 8)

He wasn't licensed to carry. He had his weapon in his vehicle which is permitted in that state. I'm sure had he been through training, he may have done a few things differently.

One for the good guys :D

Makes sense to me.

Then again, folks don't always do the sensible thing under stress, and sometimes it works out okay for them.

Hopefully it will work out more often.

I hope so too. It's a pity that those who think gun owners are 'packing heat' just looking for an opportunity to 'plug' somebody will never listen to this tape and hear the genuine distress in Chris's voice when he says "Oh my God, oh my God, I can't believe I just shot somebody."

I wonder if the "Citizens for a Safer Florida" are going to have a "March for Justice" on behalf of the deceased perp?

Looks like Obama just lost one of his supporters.
