Thus is also a good point, in this sue happy country, I'm pretty sure that unless the company did something to "insure my safety" such as a security gaurd or something, I'd either win or settle out of court.
Are they going to have a security officer follow you home, watch you while you stop for gas, groceries or a pack of smokes?

Police cannot be held responsible if they fail to protect you...it's your duty to protect yourself. I will carry to and from work and leave my firearm in the car while on the job...that way, I know I am protected while away from home and in transit.

We will be getting new new policy manual soon as our ownership has changed. I intend to read it carefully. Meanwhile, I will quietly carry in the car but not in the building.

Pretty much guaranteed to be the best way to go.

I had a student in a carry class a while back that was pretty open about having a permit and about his 2nd amendment rights. He did not carry at work as it was against company policy. His boss was adamant about searching his car. My student denied him and his boss pushed it up to their company lawyer and his boss was told to drop it. They can not legally search your car with out your permission.

I teach at a public school (charter). Can I leave my gun in my car? I know that parking lot is covered for employees. I know that guests (parents picking up kids and such) are covered at public schools. Am I o.k.? I've always sorta wondered.

I'll look for my policy handbook at work tomorrow. It's very poorly written. Oh, sorry, they said "the lawyers wrote it." No intense offended.

Since we have changed ownership, there are new policies officially in place (??) but we have not receive official notification of them. This happens a lot. We are sometimes called on the crapit for not doing something properly and someone digs out a directive we have never seen.

That's why they often have employees sign receipt of the handbook and any changes as they occur.

Agreed. This has been my policy.

Your company decides to lay off one worker, one worker has been talking about GUNS! ... hmmm who to lay off?...

You can legally store your gun in the car, parked in the school parking lot.

thanks Andrew. To be completely honest, our society has me so paranoid about the whole "school gun-free zone" thing, I've been afraid to come right out and ask. I just figured (nervously) that it was o.k.

Along these same lines, does anyone know of a good lock box? Where does one "install" this into the vehicle, and can it be bolted/locked to a part of the car?

My employer as well bans fire arms inside of the building  but with times as tough as they are, I would rather keep this job than try looking for another one!

Any advice will help...Thanks

Wrap the cable around the frame of your front seat and you'll stop the smash-and-grab thieves.

Somewhere you can also buy 2 boxes keyed alike. Have one for your car and one for your wife's.

ETA: Here it is...a little more, but having them keyed alike is worth something:
