Post subject:  Good Lawyers

One of the things mentioned during my carry course, was to have the contact information (or have retained) a good lawyer. I have always sort of kept that in the back of my mind, but I haven't ever really found anyone (or firm) that advertises as knowledgeable about self defense cases.

What are your thoughts on having a lawyer on speed-dial so to speak, and do you have anyone you would suggest.

While there may be many good criminal defense lawyers, I have David Gross on speed dial.

Betcha Joel could tell you why David is his lawyer of choice.

Is there anyone else besides David Gross, I have seen him really lose his temper at the CCRN meeting.

I used David back in '01, to force Mpls PD to renew my carry permit. He did just fine for me!

That maybe the case, but anyone who loses his temper like my wife and I saw that meeting (and a few others as well), well I just can't trust my freedom to someone like that.

Maybe he (David Gross) is the best lawyer in the state, I don't know, But it would be nice to have more that one lawyer to go to, especially if the one lawyer is someone you don't trust.

A friend who's a bailbondsman recommends Craig Cascorano in Mpls. He has apparently done shooting defense in the past.

"good lawyers",,,,hmmm, sounds like "goldenhearted whores" or "honest politicians"; great in theory, however, reality rears it's ugly head...

There's many other lawyers than David. Just btw, while I've seen him appear very angry, and appear to lose his temper, I don't think I've ever seen him actually lose his temper, or even come close to it while representing a client.

David's a friend, but that's not why he's the lawyer I'd call if I were in trouble -- it's because I think he's really good, and I trust him completely. That, of course, doesn't mean that you should.

Just that fact that we have two listed that have defensive shooting experience, is huge. That isn't something I have been able to find in yellow pages ads. :)

MagicAnimal- you may not get much disagreement regarding lawyers, but I consider it a necessary inconvience. Much like carrying 30oz of metal plus bullets on my hip.

A couple things to consider:

1) One man's "temper" is another man's "passion for the subject."

2) Sometimes a deliberate show of "temper" is an effective way to influence people. I wasn't there, but is it beyond the realm of possibility that you saw a bit of "theater" from an experienced advocate? :)

I answered Andrew privately and I will no longer talk about the subject.

A pit bull is exactly what I want for a lawyer. If I'm feeding the dog then he's on my side, right?
