The range is now closed to the public based on the sheriff's reported concerns of liability that could occur from not having control of who enters the facility. Myself and others on this board were volunteer range officers there and just got the news from the deputy who serves as rangemaster for Sherburne.

Being the range is attached to the jail and other security concerns, the Sheriff
made the decision to close the range to all non-law enforcement use. We were told there were no incidents, just concerns over the public's use of the range. It was nice while it lasted, as it is an excellent facility.

I would think that all government buildings are built with public money. I guess I am not sure what you are getting at. Because it is built with public money that it can be used by all. The jails are built with public money and can't be used by all,,,well maybe it can, but I don't plan on it.

If it was built with the condition of public use and now the Sheriff is overriding it, now that is a problem.

I suspect it was county, state and fed money, rather than donations from the deputies, but I really do not know.

I don't know...

I've been there once - had to be buzzed in so they control who enters. One would hope there would be a separation between the range and the prision - but hey this is MN...

I would ponder the cops were tired of having to share 'their' range with us riff raff.

My father, who is also a voluntary range safety officer at Sherburne County sent a pointed email letter of protest to Jim Mordal, Sgt. in charge of the range. If he doesn't hear back by noon Monday, he'll be calling the Sheriff.

It IS a very nice facility.
