Pastor Invites People to Bring Guns to Church
Thursday, June 04, 2009
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky pastor is inviting people to bring their guns to church to celebrate the Fourth of July and the Second Amendment.
New Bethel Church is welcoming "responsible handgun owners" to wear their firearms inside the church on June 27, a Saturday.
An ad says there will be a handgun raffle, patriotic music and information on gun safety.
Church pastor Ken Pagano says guns must be unloaded and private security will check visitors. He says recent church shootings make it necessary to promote safe gun ownership.
Marian McClure Taylor is executive director of the Kentucky Council of Churches.
She says churches work to prevent violent harm and promote peace, but most "allow for arms to be taken up under certain conditions
That's my kind of church!

Not bad, but what good does having them unloaded do? Non-aerodynamic rocks to throw at an attacker?

He doesn't say you can't have a full clip in your pocket ready to go.

That's just what I was wondering. It seems to defeat the purpose of wearing the darn things.

What are the KY laws regarding carry in a place of worship?
Also, it would seem to me his encouraging all handgun owners, not just those with permits to carry.

sounds like one of my age old questions that still has no answer. If Superman can handle bullets fired at him why does he duck when the bad guy throws his empty gun at him. Maybe the pastor is onto something??

I'm trying to envision something more useless than an unloaded gun, and drawing a blank.

Maybe this is the reason for those huge NICS numbers (see other thread) in Kentucky. Everyone is trying to make their pastor happy and is buying guns by the truckload.

First it is a step, all be it a small step, in the right direction. Second as pointed out earlier you can have a full magazine ready to go in your pocket. Third I have heard even though the guns are unloaded that this is causing all kinds of consternation in the area which I think is a good thing. Good for this pastor I say.
