Post subject:  Shipping ammo

A friend of mine is flying in from Nevada in March to visit and he had some questions. What is the easiest way to transport ammo? Can he ship it UPS here? He's a cop, so gets cheap ammo there.

You can ship through UPS or FedEx, I much prefer shipping FedEx.

Here is the cut and past quote -
Quote:
* U.S. Department of Transportation regulations and the following guidelines must be followed when shipping live ammunition:

+ Package and ship ammunition separately from firearm(s).

+ The outside of the container must be labeled ORM-D, Cartridges, Small Arms.

+ The Declaration of Dangerous Goods must include the number of package(s) and the gross weight of the completed package(s) in grams.

I don't remember marking the outside of the package that I shipped through FedEx with anything other than the addresses and ORM-D. But if I was to ship some live ammunition again, I would make sure to mark it as quoted above.

Fed-ex in Mpls gave me a major hassle when I tried to ship some collectible ammo to someone other than myself. And they tried to make me overnight it.

UPS was a walk in the park and cheaper.

I did UPS between Minneapolis and Kingman, AZ and back again and it was a simple experience. Just had to have the box conspicuously (2 or more surfaces?) marked "ORM-D, Cartridges, Small Arms".

It was kind of expensive, but only because I shipped about a case of .45 ACP and .44 Mag.

Thanks guys. The ammo he is looking to ship is around 500 rounds or so of AR15 ammo. He gets this for free.... "training" :D

Handgun ammo he'll just pick up when he gets here.

Any ideas as to cost for shipping?
