By Morgan Chesky -

PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) - A house on West Point Tap Road is quiet today, much different than Wednesday night when members of Palestine Police exchanged gunfire with a man barricaded inside.

Police responded to a call regarding a deceased person a little after 9pm Wednesday night. Upon approaching the residence, 62-year-old Ronnie Cook began to fire gunshots at authorities who took cover and secured a perimeter around the house.

Two hours after a standoff, Cook called 911 and began to negotiate terms of his surrender with the operator on duty. Soon after midnight, Cook walked out of the house wearing a pair of his own handcuffs he placed on his own wrists.

Entering the home soon after, authorities discovered Cook's 62-year-old wife, Frances Darlene Cook, dead in the bathroom with a single gunshot wound.

Cook was taken to Anderson County Jail where he remains without bond for attempted capital murder and is facing murder charges for his wife, Frances Darlene Cook.

Nutcase.

Negotiating terms of his surrender?

How about, "You killed your wife and shot at officers, be thankful we didn't drop napalm on your dumb ass!" :bang:

Of course, that might be why I'm not a police negotiator.

I don't know. I kind of like your negotiation strategy.

You're right Dean, especially if she shoots better than you do!

All humor aside, if a negotiator can get a guy out without anybody -- hostages, cops, the perp (in my order of priority) -- getting hurt, I'm just fine with him negotiating terms, or talking nice, or doing the macarena.

Why does the article headline say "Concealed handgun instructor," and then not mention anything about that in the rest of the story...

It is not relevant to the story other than to give the antis ammunition. The math works better and it helps the ninnies compartmentalize the story.

Instructor + nut job = wife killer.

Uuuuhhhg! Whether or not that guy was an instructor has nothing to do with ANYTHING! Cops kill their wives/husbands, military folks do it (no matter their rank), politicians, etc. ad nausium...

*states obvious that everyone here knows* This just give weenies that are afraid of big bad guns, and heaven forbid, people being able to legally carry said guns, a toothless argument that somehow all instructors fit the same profile as this a**hole that went coo coo for coco puffs and shot his wife.

and if you watch the video clip, they mention they found an assortment of other handguns and weapons......

so be sure to watch out for the guy with more then one as he is the crazy one.

at least they did not use any catch phrases such as "armory" "arsenal" "compound" or "assult weapon"

That is so, so true. And so disappointing.
