Does anyone have any details on what happened to cause the closure of the Post 435 Gun Clubs rifle ranges?

Is that the one between Lakeville and Northfield, just off the freeway?
If so, word around the campfire is that a local had a couple holes popped in a building. Also, I thought it was only closed to rifles.

My neighbor is good friends with that family and I'm also a member of the gun club, so I hear some things.

My understanding is that all parties are working together to find a permanent solution that would allow the range to remain open. The family could easily have had a knee jerk reaction and sued to get the range closed but it sounds like they're being very reasonable. The club is giving the incident the attention and concern that the situation requires.

The end result is that the club is now building blue sky barriers on all of the rifle and (I think) pistol ranges. The one new restriction on shooters is no offhand shooting, except for certain organized events such with the CMP.

The club is having mandatory orientation next week. Your card key will be deactivated if you don't go. They're guessing that the rifle range will be open around mid June.

Good thing they got this resolved before the end of the membership year (July I think), or they'd probably lose quite a few folks. I look forward to shooting rifle there again.

The official info is here:

One of the club officers is a member of the forum, perhaps he'll chime in.

<edited to remove the home reference...I mixed up this incident with a previous incident.>

That would be me.

I've been reluctant to post any information on this incident as the last thing we needed was "anti" media organization getting ahold of this story and turning it into a circus.

The short story is we had a careless member who was shooting his ComBloc EBR on our pistol range and shot over the impact berm. The bullet traveled 1000+ yards and struck our neighbors out building (not home).

Because we were concerned with the neighbors safety we closed the range to all rifles until we could assess range safety and draw up a solution that would make sure our neighbors feel safe again.

After almost 9 months of planning and consulting with the DNR we finally have a plan to satisfy our neighbors.

We're hoping to have the range open again in the next month.

Sounds like a good agreement between the range and land owners :D

Man so close to home, I drive by it all the time, doesn't appear I'm eligiable to join it though.

Hats off to your club leadership and membership on working things out. Our club takes these issues very seriously as well. We try hard to understand what potential problems could arise, and to implement solutions before bad stuff happens. Fortunately it sounds as if you have neighbors you work together with. Stay vigilant.
