Quote: A Tampa woman is recovering from a gunshot wound she received while using the bathroom at local hotel. Police say Thursday morning, 53-year-old Janifer Bliss was attending a women's health conference at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center on Fowler Avenue in Tampa. She was inside a bathroom stall, when a bullet came from the next stall and hit her in the leg... Police say 56-year-old Debra Monce has a concealed weapons permit and had the gun in the stall next to Bliss. "She had the gun in a holster on her pants. When she went to use the restroom, the gun fell out. It hit the ground. Once it hit the ground it discharged," said Tampa Police Spokesperson Andrea Davis. "[The bullet] went under the stall ... and hit the woman in the leg. "Police say anyone carrying a gun in a holster needs to be very aware of what type of holster they're using. "The type of holster the gun was in is called an open holster. It doesn't have any type of strap or clip holding the gun in," Davis said. http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/news/l ... all_070909

More to this than meets the eye, I would think. Sounds like something either hit the trigger, or there was a faulty drop safety.

Possibly, a Ruger LCP that hasn't made it back for the recall.

Let's give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she's using the same gun as the Minneapolis Police Officer who shot the guy at the gun show. Somebody outta FOIA the investigation for that one

I'm thinking sudden grab to catch while falling, or quickly pick up to avoid embarrassment. I bet the "it went off when it hit the ground" is BS.

Maybe it was a Jimenez .25.
Oh wait, it says the victim was injured.

I'm with you. That, "just went off" excuse is pretty tired. dcwn.45 wrote: I'm thinking sudden grab to catch while falling, or quickly pick up to avoid embarrassment. I bet the "it went off when it hit the ground" is BS.

If it were a POS 38 Spl two barrel derringer where the firing pin rests right on the primer, it could have very well have discharged when it hit the floor. George Kappas of the EFFEN Gopher Bar possesses such a POS, and there are no less than THREE bullet holes in the wall and ceiling from this gun discharging when it was dropped. Please ask for a bullethole tour during the next EFFEN OCB, with will probably happen in September.
Unless it was that specific kind of gun, however, I also call BS on this one.
