Will a positive decision from SCOTUS on Incorporation in the McDonald vs. Chicago case affect the Licensing and Registration of firearms, or is that an entirely separate case?




If not, are there any cases currently that are arguing against Licensing and Registration?



In the Heller decision the Supremes said "Reasonable restrictions where fine."



Couldn't they now say that Registration and Licensing is a reasonable restriction?




Although I don't understand how you can license and register a right. It would be like making you register and license your typewriter, computer or printer.

Whether good or bad, it won't really have any bearing on issues like registration and licensing. Looking back, the Heller decision didn't deny or specifically affirm the Government's option to mandate a registration scheme, either.

Remember the question put to the Court was that of whether the District's former policy tended to preclude any Americans from their rights. Heller left the District with two options: either eliminate registration and licensing requirements, or provide for the registration of handguns.

That too has been tried. I remember reading somewhere that in the former Soviet Union, typewriter registration was required (at one time). Since typed documents apparently can be matched with a certain degree of reliability to the machine on which they were typed; if you tried to spread seditious literature, they could get you.

That's exactly correct. When photocopiers became available the state couldn't figure out how to make the machines identifiable so private ownership of them was made illegal.

Many high-end color copiers produce invisible codes that law enforcement can use to identify their make, model and serial number.
