Reminder to all that travel into Iowa. Effective 1-1-11, Iowa will recognize all State permits. The only catch is that if you are an IA resident, then you must have an IA permit in order to be legal. .. but...a MN resident can legally carry in Iowa with a permit issued from any State.

If you have friends/family in Iowa that have an existing permit, the Iowa DPS has interpreted the new law in what I think is an "odd" way for those whose permits expire between now and 12-31-10. You might want to have them contact me to explain further.

Finally, although Iowa has no provision against open carry, there is credible concern that some Sheriffs that are very against the new law that takes away their discretion may target open carriers for "disturbing the peace". Be forewarned.

It will be interesting to see if MN will recognize Iowa. Yet, if we do not recognize the ND Class 1 permit, it is hard to believe we would recognize the Iowa....but, will be interesting to see. At least we will be street legal if/when travelling into and through Iowa (assuming you have a permit from some State).

Excellent information. Thanks. It has always been a hassle to pull off of I35 and stow the gear while on the way to Des Moines.

That sounds like the attitude of our metro and Duluth area Sheriffs/Chiefs of Police.

Thanks again.
