I got the Maye warrant to finally open up. It looked pretty ambiguous to me. "the yellow apts. on the left" ??? No specific address, no names. Not being a lawyer, I couldn't attest to the validity of the warrant, but it looks like a fishing expedition to me. One would THINK that a physical address would have been in them had the police really done their homework.

Agreed. The warrants were in a vague, "boilerplate" format and I'm sure theat they covered both dwellings in the duplex because they were uncertain which one was home to the dealer.

Good or bad, that's pretty common in crack house raids. They want to be able to search the entire building without having to distinguish who lives in which room and what property belongs to which party.

Bottom line, in my opinion, is that when you live with snakes you should expect to get bitten.

Except that the two sides of a duplex are exactly equivalent to apartment 309 and apartment 311 in a high-rise.

The cops may have had legal authority to enter Maye's home -- but the judge should never have given it.

Well, now that I'm done snowblowing the driveway AND the cul de sac (because apparently we're LAST on the list and the golf course parking lot was more important this time of year  ), I was reflecting on this a bit. Were I the judge, I would have wanted to see a specific address & apt #. I've lived with the snakes and have not gotten bitten. Sometimes, people just can't afford a better side of town. I'm not saying this was the case, but I'd bet on it. The war on drugs is a tough one, just as is the war on terror, but we treat the terrorists better than we treat our own citizens & military!!! Something to think about.
