Well I fell victim to the idea of reloading after the breakfast today. (PJ's is way to close to Gunstop. :) )

I bought a Dillon 550 with the conversions and dies for .45, 9mm, and .38/.357, a scale, a primer flip tray, the Speer manual, bullets (230 gr ball), powder (231), primers (Federal), a dial micrometer, a workbench to bolt the press to and hold the rest of this stuff , a case tumbler and media.

I now face the daunting task of setting this thing up. It is starting to come back to me.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

The fun has just begun. :D

When putting together your bench, mount a good power strip on it, you'll need it.

So, maybe we should do a survey, who has what?

I have a Dillion 550 and a RCBS single stage.
Mostly RCBS dies with Forester, Lee, Hornady, and Redding mixed in.
RCBS beam scale and Pact electronic scale.
Dillon powder measure on my 550, but also a RCBS Uniflow mounted to my bench.
A RCBS case trimmer and a Thumbler Tumbler vibrating case cleaner.

A quick update, I am set up and going on .45acp (5.3 gr 231, large primer and 230 gr Ball.) they seem to shoot well and function well. I am already looking at a better platform for it. My neighbor is a carperter, I think I can convince him to build me a bench out of 2x12's with 4x4's for legs. Should be solid and workable with a Dillion "strong mount".

I am off to gunstop, possibly tomorrow to get components for 9mm and .38 special. I am told I should give Unique powder a try, anyone have any suggestions for .45, 9mm, .38 special or 5.56 loads? If you are willing to share I would like to hear some suggestions for the above calibers.

Thanks in advance.

I have the strong mount for my 550. I bought it on a recommendation from Dillon because of how I was mounting my press. Have been very satisfied with it.

Try Unique.

Even if you don't love Unique, it's worth having around since it's usable in just about every caliber imaginable -- I've used in .45 ACP, 10mm, .44 Special, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt.

I sort of switched to Vihta Vouri N320 for .45 since it seems marginally cleaner burning than Unique, but it's also more expensive. When my N320 is done I'm going to use Unique simply because I have it and it works fine.

True statement, it will work with a lot of calibers. I have target loads for my 41 mag's that work super for plinking and are really nothing to sneeze at if it is needed in a defensive situation.

I like Unique also, but not with lead bullets. I was getting a lot of leading with my .45 acp loads with it and an old hand at our club suggested trying Winchester Super Target instead. That took care of the excessive leading problem.
