So this weekend we went to the Gunstop.

John is an encyclopedia..

Wouldn't even let me consider Rainier bullets.

Curious what others experience with Clays vs Bullseye has been for a plinking round with 115 FMJ?

I use clays in my 12 ga loads. Burns clean, economical and low recoil.

I have loads calling for 3 gr for the 9mm and 4 gr for the .45 ACP. The 9mm seems to have nice case volume but the .45 looks to be really under loaded volume wise.


Bought enough supplies from John on Saturday to set-up a Dillion 550 for the 9mm on a friends press. He doesn't shoot it, so that head with die set will eventually come home with me to my own Dillion when I get it bought.

He already has a Dillion set-up for .45, .357 and a rock Chucker for .223 and .308.

Just curious what to expect with these loads.

Looking to load some .308 with 168 SMK and Varget also.

Eventually I will be adding the .243 and .223 to the mix as well.

Looking to use a general powder with them as well. Considering the Varget and H4895.

Any input on rifle loads is appreciated also. With as many loads and everything I have looked at, I feel like you eventually have to just pick something and "Just Do It".....

Looking to be a fun summer.

Be very careful with those small powder charges in the 45, it is vey easy to get a double when your only throwing 4gr. And you do not want a double, trust me. You might want to try Winchester 231 for the 45, it is very accurate and is not snappy.

ditto on the 231. Also, my 2 cents on the 168 matchkings, the very best load I have found so far in my .308 has been using IMR 4064. One ragged hole all day, everyday. I am going to try the Varget this summer as it is one of the powders that shoots the same at 80 as it does at -0. That is something I have found with the 4064, a summer zero does not hold water :D Have fun relaoding, its great!!

Varget is a GREAT powder.

I have a HUGE supply of BL(C)-2 on hand and have been trying to run through that.

I use a top end load of that with a 180 Sierra BTGK and am getting sub MOA out to 300 out of my custom 308.

+2 on Varget. It also meters really well.
