Found some Remington primers today but they were designated 1 1/2,2 1/2 and 5 1/2 all in small pistol. I checked the Remington websight and no info. I also did a quick search here and zip. Can someone clue me in what the number designates ? TIA

I don't really know the answer but I did find this on Remingtons website:

In pistol cartridges, the 1-1/2 small pistol primer should not be used in the 357 Magnum, 357 SIG or the 40 S&W. The 5-1/2 small pistol primer is the proper selection for these rounds

edit: more information I found would suggest that the higher number (5-1/2) would indicate that it is a "magnum" primer.

I may be wrong and it has been YEARS since I have used Rem Primers but as I can recall

Some of the Rem primers are made of a softer alloy for some guns that work at lower pressures or have lighter firing pin strikes. This applies to the small species.

I cannot for the life of me remember where I came by that information or who told it to me - so I could potentially be way off base.

Just a thought.
