ok i know this will probably turn into a argument about not enuff gun, but here goes.

im going to use my bushmaster m4gery for deer hunting this season. i hunt up around lake mille lacs, in area 154 to be exact. when i stand hunt i will be using my bolt action .308. when i get to antsy in the middle of the week and cant handle sitting in one spot anymore im gonna still hunt and carry my ar. its chambered in 5.56. it seems to shoot the federal vital shok .223 loads with the 60 grain nosler partition bullets pretty good so thats the load i will use. the partition bullet should be absolutely devastating on a white tail at the close ranges shots are taken at when still hunting.

im just curious how many funny looks i will get when out on the public land. you dont see to many folks out there with black rifles but im sure that will change now that all centerfire cartridges with bullets .220 and larger are now legal in the rifle areas.

ok flame on

As long as you're doing it all legal, I wouldn't worry one bit.

However, be prepared............. :?

You know darn good & well that there'll be some hoplophobic libtard out looking at leaves that may see you and dial 911, reporting a 'man with an assault rifle'.

I'm looking forward to the same thing with this (chambered in .308)

i gots to worn you its ruff country in the north west at least that time of year. theres lots of room for the wind out there. i will stick to my savage .308 for the open areas i hunt but in the brush its the little gun for me.

i figure i can tell the libtards that my gun uses a smaller cartridge thus producing less carbon emissions..... as we all know how little carbon an ar-15 emits

Actually, AR's manufacture carbon. Every time I got one squeeky clean, the next morning it would be full of carbon again.

Not to poop on your parade, and please don't get me wrong, I have a couple of AR's and I love them; but why the hell would you want to carry a heavy clunky rifle like that in the woods? You typically don't need several fast shots on hand for hunting, it's not combat or a zombie shoot. You're hiking through the woods in cold shitty weather with thick gloves on and you'll have limited dextarity of your hands because of the cold. I'll take my Marlin XL7 or 1895GS into the woods any day over my AR's unless prarie dogging counts... That's another topic all together.

That happens to be the one and only rifle I have in a large enough caliber for deer/elk/combat/zombies. The DNR would most definitely frown on me using my other rifle.......a Marlin model 60 .22LR. :P

My buddies son that lives up there has a fairly large slough, bordered on 2 sides with woods, with several raised shooting platforms near his farmyard, so it wouldn't be like I'd be tromping through thick woods for several miles.

Hunting deer (w/ shotgun), down here in southern MN has become nothing more than a PITA over the past 10 years or so. Too many idiots everywhere I've gone hunting....even on private land. People have no respect for landowners and will trespass to go hunting anywhere they please. At least that far north (near Lancaster MN), there shouldn't be too many people.

theres nothing heavy or clunky about a bushmaster m4gery. its way lighter and manuverable than my scoped 308 bolt action. a 16inch barrel and collapsable stock make it much easier to handle in the brush.

when you are still huntin you need to be able to get on target and fire a round fast. as for your mention of shooting zombies........well if i run into one i will.

just for your knowledge i wont be using 30 round mags either. i got a nice reasonable 10 rounder for use when hunting.

x2 i used to hunt in the welch area but its world war 3 there now every deer season. i find up north that once i get a few hundred yards out into the public land im mostly alone. most people up there tend to stick close to the forest roads and atv trails. its easy to get lost in the big woods like that and a lot more walking then some of them want to get out there where nobody else is.

Last time I went deer hunting 'down here' (it's been about 5+ years), I had asked permission from a friend of mine that owns several hundred acres. I've known him for many years and he doesn't let others (other than the very few he gives permission to), to hunt his property.

Early morning of Deer Opener that season, I snuck into 'my spot' around 2:30 am and hunkered down and waited.

As daylight came (just light enough to tell shapes-not colors), I thought to myself, "WTF is going on!?!?!?" All I could see was 'human shapes' all around me.

Needless to say, I waited until I could see 'colors' (specifically 'blaze orange'). At that time, I counted no LESS than 11 bodies basically surrounding me........ALL OF THEM WITHIN 200 YARDS!.

At that point, I didn't give a flying f*** and got up and made as much noise as I could walking out to my pickup.

I went straight to my buddies place and asked him, "How many other people did you give permission to hunt 'down there' (where I was)? He said, "NONE! Why???"

He ended up calling the Game Warden, but I was pissed and left before they got there.

Haven't been deer hunting since. :(

you need to go up north in the mille lacs lake area. theres some big woods up there. usually theres a lot of people out on the weekends of the season but the dont go very far from the roads and trails. during the week you wont see more than a couple people and most of them arent really hunting much. i know of a couple areas where you can park your camper or whatever on the county/state land. if your willing to do a little walkin and get out in the woods a bit you wont hardly see anyone out there.
