Might be the wolves, might be something else. Too bad the DNR didn't bother to mention what the causes or their theories are behind the increased mortality rates.

I think it may be what they call "Brain Fever", a disease that moose get. I believe it is a disease carried by ticks and with a rise in the deer population there are more ticks.
I was told a number of years ago by a wildlife biologist that increasing deer population in the northern part of the state was causing more moose to develop brain fever and might eventually end moose hunting.

It's been a quiet topic of conversation up here for a while. We've been finding dead moose in the woods for a while now. I don't think that there's a big problem with brain worm because you can usually tell they have it before they die. They stagger around towards the end. I've seen moose with brain worm before. There's been a study going on for quit a while now and it's being done by one of the tribes. The local CO's just aren't saying much.
