Does anybody have a recommendation for a taxidermist who can do a European type deer skull mount? We lost a nice symetrical little 10 pointer this fall, (no blood trail).
I finally found the carcass yesterday and the skull and antlers are still OK, but the cape and hide is rotten and chewed.
I guess some taxidermists use bugs to clean the meat and then bleach the skull; I think they look nice.

They have kits at Cabelas to do it yourself
No bugs though... I think...

Howdy to the forum BTW. Welcome aboard, and all that. I'll leave out the comments about how "moose bites can be very dangerous. . . "
Too late.

Well, Cabella's kit is $50, and Great Bear by Osakis is $125 complete. (plus a couple trips to Osakis.)
According to the instructions, to do it myself I have to boil the deer head in a large cauldron for about four hours, taking it out occasionally to rip flesh off, and except for a terrible smell, and the kitchen mess, it sounds like a fascinating project for a dull guy like me.
On the other hand, the terrible smell and mess is just the kind of thing my wife could possibly complain about, so I may go to Great Bear, unless I find something closer.

My son in-law has done a couple using the Cabela's kits. They turned out really nice. He boiled the heads outdoors up at our hunting land so it didn't smell bad.
I'd say do it yourself, not hard to do at all.
