Post subject:  Two minor questions about the new software

I've read the FAQ and the threads here about the new board software, and I can't find the answers to two questions:

1. I get that the color red in the round icons on the left means that there are unread messages in that category. What does the moving "scrolling text" symbolize?

2. Similarly, what does the tiny red star in that same round icon mean?

No big deal, but as often as I'm on here, I'd like to know at a glance exactly what's going on.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the new upgrade.

I'm not the resident expert but I think scrolling text means a popular topic. I have no idea how many post it takes to make a topic popular.

I think a red star means you have a post in that thread.

ETA: Yep, I have a red star on this thread now.

There's lots of cool stuff in the new software; not all of it meets the eye. About the only thing I'm dissatisfied with is the style, and that's being handled by somebody who really knows that stuff, is willing to do it, and has stepped up. (I'm not naming him, at the moment, because I think that he should be thanked when finished, not nagged while working -- and I know that if I'm tempted to nag, others will be, too.)
