I got a haircut here today. Great place. The onwer (I assume) is named Mike, and seems like he could have been around as Ol' Mel himself for the 40 years of the place's existence, but he's only owned it for a few years. He's a Vietnam vet, served on an aircraft carrier as a plane captain. He's a little hard of hearing, so speak up.

Very gun-friendly place -- besides the sign in the window, he's got pictures of guns and john Wayne around, and a 1974 issue of Gun Digest that I thumbed through while waiting. Great atmosphere if you like Un-self-conscious Old American Barber Shops, and I do.

There's also a lady barber there, who was giving haircuts to a couple of little kids whose mom was hovering nearby.

I think anybody in the area ought to get their haircuts there -- show the flag and all. He charges $13. Now, I can get a haircut for $9 at Great Clips with a coupon, but why would you when you've got Cowboy Mel's?

It's a block off Main St. on S. 2nd Ave.

So Mel is still around? All I know is, the guy who cut my hair appeared to be the owner, and said his name was Mike.
