One small bit of good news from last night. Anyone know what was with the 1200 write-ins?

Didn't everyone write in Kimberman?

Kidding! I voted for the winner but was disappointed that her literature didn't arrive until after I voted absentee. I'm happy with my vote.

Orenstein may have lost, but Jane Ranum won.

Unfortunately, but sure. That said, if I had to choose which of the two were a greater threat, it would have been Orenstein; this would have been his step up to a Federal bench. There's no reason to think that Ranum hasn't just bumped against the ceiling.

:)

I was involved with the election process in Minneapolis yesterday. I suspect that a fair number of voters just marked the "write in" line on their ballots without even filling in a name for the judicial elections.
That's if they bothered to vote the back page at all.

Orenstein seems to have been the establishment candidate, offically endorsed by the Bar Association, and so approved by the politicians.

Gail is a legal services type who would never get such approval purely on her professional merit.

This does not happen often. Voters actually excercised power.

I always write myself in on any contest where there is no challenger. Several years ago I actually came 2nd in the W St Paul Mayoral election.

Gail Chang-Bohr put out a very nice out-sized postcard. It was informative, and I even learned that she attends the church I used to attend for 42 years, among other things.

I was sold on her long before that ended up in my mailbox, but I do look at all of the political fodder sent to me, if nothing else for the comedic value. However, her's was a non-negative, informative, and well organized graphic.

I believe my city, county, state, and country needs more politicians of this calibre.
