Subject: Radio ads to prevent gun violence

Quote:
Dear Supporter,

We had a successful background check petition drive thanks to supporters like you, collecting nearly 300 signatures!

We aim to help Minnesotans understand that background checks for gun sales are not universal in our state and that it is EASY for criminals to obtain guns in legal venues without undergoing a background check. In order to accomplish this goal, we enlisted the help of a local advertising agency that developed an ad to be played on the radio. One ad helps get the word out to millions of Minnesotans abut the need for background checks for gun sales. A second ad demonstrates the need for gun owners to securely store their firearms to prevent access by children.

Citizens for a Safer Minnesota Education Fund (CSMEF) needs help from our supporters in order to reach as many Minnesotans as possible. CSMEF provides the staff support for the PROTECT Minnesota campaign and we are funded largely by individual donors.

PLEASE DONATE!

Any size donation is appreciated. Can you can afford even $5 to make our state safer?

Sue Fust

Executive Director, Citizens for a Safer Minnesota & Chair, PROTECT Minnesota Campaign

P.S. If you haven't yet signed the petition, please do so now!

Let it be known that I will donate any voice work/production needed for any pro-gun counter ads if MCCRN/GOCRA/NRA wants to get some going.

And he's good -- very good -- at what he does. Thanks for the offer.

Send Sue a discount coupon to one of the local gun stores 8)

It may be well to advise her of the potential for denial of her permit to purchase on mental health grounds

300 signatures? They must have enlisted ACORN. I don't recall there being 300 people under their umbrella.

I bet if you asked Ms. Fust if gun dealers can waive background checks at gun shows, she'll say 'yes'. It's crazy that they invent this myth called the 'gunshow loophole' and once they have their myth they refuse to believe the reality even if you take them down there and prove it. Donate money to combat something that doesn't even exist. What a bunch of idiots ... my only wish is they spend a lot of their money on it.

The petition probably read "Sign this if you don't want criminals to buy guns." Or "Sign here to keep gangs from shooting your kid's school." Or "Sign here, or I'm not going to let go of your purse."

That's 300 signatures in 6 months. They are looking for a mere 1000.

I'll be out of town but do you think the other members of TCC could get 5000 signatures (plus name and e-mail address) on a "leave us alone" petition at the BIG MWCA gun show in Minneapolis in early December? 15,000 gun owners will attend the two-day show (probably 5000 between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday alone).

We can have it at my booth and it is at the St Paul Rivercenter on Dec 13-14.

I apologize ahead of time if this is a stupid question:
What are they (and for that matter we) collecting signatures for? Is there a bill trying to get through? If not, what's the point of a petition?

If you'd like, I could collect signatures from the people up here. Betcha I could single-handedly beat their 300 signatures.

It's easy for us to distribute information and to collect signatures and contributions at gun shows. That's why they're trying to close down gun shows.

This has nothing at all to do with closing the non-existent "gun show loophole" and everything to do with silencing dissent.
