The pictured holster is stunning similar (if not an exact copy) of the Tucker Gun Leather HF-1 design, including the Fleur de Lis border stamping.

I say this because I have that holster in black with that border pattern. Tucker has been renowned for many years as making some of the most beautiful and functional custom rigs out there. And yes even given its' functionallity I do consider it to be every bit a BBQ worthy rig. It was a 7 month wait on the list to get mine. I was ecstatic when I finally received it.

I'm hoping to be at the next Effen Gopher gathering where I will show it off. Maybe we could compare holsters there.

Tucker had the answer before Crossbreed was in business IIRC. The answer is the epitome of leather backed kydex holsters that I've tried.

The HF-1 is what Bob's holster most closely resembles and I believe Tucker credits it as a copy of a design of someone he respects. I've made HF-1 type holsters for myself.

Whether it's a derivative or a copy or whatever, the skill to execute it beautifully makes it something to be proud of.

I agree with plbark. I love leather holsters (and I believe kydex or carbon fiber have their place). The holsters of many of the custom makers have a design pedigree that dates back to some earlier makers design. The holster that is pictured in the post by DenverCZBob appears to be of pretty good quality and craftsmanship. It’s wasn’t my intention to flame his work, I just noted the not so subtle similarities of the designs.

One thing that I have noticed more and more is that the classic and most desired holster designs are being copied by newer custom makers (the Milt Sparks VM-2 is a very good example). As much as anything else it could be related to the long lead time to get the product from the very popular high-end custom makers. No one enjoys having to wait for their custom order, however demand cycles have ups and downs and the demand for the custom products is at an all time high right now. They have to operate their business somewhere in between high and low demand periods. Sometimes imitation is not the highest form of flattery though. As far as legal considerations are concerned I’ll leave that up to the parties involved. Personally I desire and appreciate some of the very high-end custom products, and I’ll shell out the dough and wait on a list to have them.

Cobb mentioned the similarities of the Tucker Answer and the Crossbreed Super Tuck combination kydex/leather holster design. I don’t have a clue who went to market with the design first, but it did occur to me that Comp-Tac model M.T.A.C. is another very similar design. I know that many acclaim the virtues of all these holsters. And from what I’ve heard the wait times to get them are not long.

I believe Tucker at one time bought the molded bodies for his Answer holsters from the makers of the MTAC.

He makes some nice holsters. I have one of his for the BERSA Thunder that is really swell.
