Post subject:  FIST K1 - worn out

It's 2009. More than six years of pretty-much everyday carry.

Kydex seems to be one of the plastics that gets brittle over time. I'd had some small pieces chip off the bottom of the holster. On the outside, mostly, where I'd occasionally bump against a chair arm as I sat down. About a month ago, the ear that keeps the slide from contacting my shirt started to crack.

So, I ordered a new holster, and had it in a couple of weeks.

Has anyone else worn one out a holster?

hmm....My COMP-TAC is s'posed to be good for 10,000 draws. I wonder if that's the brittleness factor at work.

I would contact the manufacturer. You never know -- they might replace it.

FIST seems to use thinner kydex than everyone else. I'm thinking this is likely an unavoidable consequence.

I've got a couple Fist kydex holsters, and they are indeed thinner than any others I've seen. The IWB is their Ultra-Thin kydex, and when I order another I'll specify the Thin instead. Even their Thin OWB holsters are thinner than almost every other brand.

But I'm used to the older Blade-Tech kydex, which I think is also used to make tire ramps for bus and semi mechanics. Well, maybe not, but it is Thick! OTOH, you wouldn't be able to make stitched holsters like Fist does.

I have a buddy who wears out a B-T IWB about every 2 years. I just think of holsters as wear items.
