I recently got to try out a Blackhawk Serpa Holster with both my Glock and my XD and absolutely think they are probably the best non-leather holster on the market. The holsters come in either Kydex or Carbon Fiber and have a unique active retention method that allows for alomost silent draw of your handgun and your trigger finger in its natural straight position releases the retention without any effort. With most Kydex holster retention is on the trigger gaurd and those of who have used one know that when you draw you get a very loud "snap" when the retention releases. I have purchased three of these now and use them for daily carry of my handguns. Check them out at Blackhawk.com

I have been using one for 8 months now and I like it quite a lot, I have noticed a bit of wear on the part of the slide next to my body, but other than that it is a great holster.

For a minute I thought it came with "Sherpa" technology: a guy walking behind me to carry the gun.

That would be cool. :)

I'm still trying to find somebody who doesn't like this holster.

I have one for my 1911 commander. Same as grayskys, some wear on my slide by my body, otherwise, very good.

Like any other kydex holster, I don't think it conceals quite as well as my OWB leather holster.

I tried to get the Serpa for my P229, but wound up with the snap retention one. It's not my favorite, but I use it quite frequently with the paddle feature for when the gun is coming on and off a lot. Wish I got the model I wanted with the retention doohickey, but oh well. Teach me to order something without verifying the specifics of it.

I don't like them. I bought one for my Sig 229, and 5 days later the plastic paddle snapped when a strap on my backpack snagged the holster, as I was removing the backpack to put it in my car. The gun almost fell on the ground, before I caught it.

Leather is the way for me -- even if something snags, the holster will flex instead of break. And, as someone else also noted, my leather OWB holster conceals better than the CQC.

I'm guessing that you had a holster from last year, TK. They were having problems with those paddles so they've recently redesigned them to be much thicker and with additional "hooks" for holding the paddle in place.

So what are they doing to fix the situation? is it just the paddle? Are they offering a swap?

To me, this is a piece of equipment that cannot be allowed to fail. How the company handles this issue affects my confidence in the rest of their products as well.

I have one of the old paddles, and I'm considering asking them to send me the "new style". The only reason I haven't is because I only use the belt slots.

Blackhawk gear has a lifetime warranty, so I'm sure you could get a new paddle if your old one happened to break ....

Kydex or Carbon Fiber

For those of us that are newbies, could someone please explain the pros/cons of kydex and carbon fiber?

I'm also curious to hear more about this holster rubbing the finish off a glock.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their expertise so far!
