It's that time again. Bring your project, ideas, or curiosity and come work on it with others from the board.

Last time we had 6 people and it seemed there was enough room for a couple more.

questions, comments, suggestions?

We'll meet at my house in Roseville once again. PM for directions / address.

here't the last thread (http://www.twincitiescarry.com/forum/vi ... php?t=4330)

I've got something else scheduled for after work, but not sure how long that will last. Since I didn't get all that far last time (and haven't gotten back at it yet), I could certainly use the time and assistance!

I guess I'd better think on strategy for my forming ideas this weekend then - I envison using Play-Doh or something similar to fill-in a couple areas around the barrel/rear sight to keep the upper portion only loosely formed, getting more snug farther down the barrel... anybody else have any other/better options?

a couple ideas I've seen:
tape a few toothpicks or a chopstick to the gun when forming to get a sight channel (depending on length and depth you want.

form it tight, let it dry completely, then wet a VERY small area and relieve it with a tool (think plastic chopstick or something similar)

Wickett - Craig is a decent source online according to some sources. Their stuff also comes drum dyed so it's black through and through before you start. http://www.wickett-craig.com/products.htm

Here's how it breaks down:
Both places only sell sides in 10-11 oz thickness. ~25 SF in a side.
Tandy: $7.69 (members) - $8.99(Retail) = $ 192.25 - $224.75 per side.
WC: $6.17 (10 or more) - $6.30 = $154.35 - $157.5 per side.

Pro WC: Better price per SF and pre-dyed
Con: Only whole sides. Johan at Tandy prices better than the sf price anyway and you can buy 8-9 oz in single shoulders. A side is a LOT of leather :-)

who wants to do a group buy?

Perhaps we can split a Tandy Side and make sure we want to work in 10 oz first? Perhaps we can see how prushin's 10 oz holster worked out?

...I know that I am the cherry here, but this 10 oz and/or shoulder stuff has me a little confused and I have absolutely no idea until I see it.......It's kind of like 9 count shrimp.....who cares if they can count, I want to eat them so how big are they - finger or thumb size...............

A side is, as you might expect, one side of the cow.

One ounce equals 1/64th of an inch thickness.

Hope this helps. :D

Try http://www.tandyleather.com/LeatherGuide.asp for more.

What I've been using recently is 7-8 oz IIRC. The 4-5 or oz is pretty thin for a holster. They sell 7-8 oz in a shoulder for ~$20 at Tandy but don't worry about that yet. I bought a shoulder and have some excess so you're welcome to use it for your first one.

I think all you'll need is an awl.

As of this minute I have been informed that I have plans this Monday. :( I don't know what they are, but I have them.

As far as how the 10oz leather is working out...Tough to sew, but once I'm finished my IWB is probably going to outlast me. I'll post some pics as soon as I get it to wearable condition.

Sounds interesting, I'd be such a newb that I'd be watching most of the time, but then I might take to it like water. Maybe I'll pick up an awl or raid my toolbox to see what I can bring.

Would love to make one of these sessions. Maybe you could have one on a weekend sometime. Maybe after a tcc breakfast?
