Un-F'ing-believable....those poor slobs in Australia...I'm not sure what's worse...that air rifles are illegal or that the "Professional Standards Command" got to search his home.

Officer Pleads Guilty To Gun Charges

Officer pleads guilty to gun charges

A HIGH-PROFILE police officer attached to the NSW counter-terrorism unit has pleaded guilty to possessing an unauthorised firearm and ammunition.

Sergeant Sean Matthew Wallace, a former homicide squad member was found in possession of a Gecado air rifle and ammunition, when officers from Professional Standards Command searched his Chipping Norton home in May.

The 40-year-old officer, who is currently on sick leave, had told police it was a friend's weapon and that he "forgot it was there".

Wallace yesterday pleaded guilty to both charges at Downing Centre Local Court.

Police documents tendered to court said Wallace surrendered a number of firearms, including two rifles, when his firearms licence expired in 2003.

During the search of his home officers found more than 100 ammunition cartridges in a wardrobe. On top of the wardrobe, wrapped in a blanket, was the rifle, police said.

When asked if he had a licence for the weapon, Wallace told police, "A mate gave it to me and I forgot it was there," the court heard.

He was not convicted by Magistrate Jane Culver. Instead, for each of the charges he was given a 12-month good behaviour bond under section 10. Ms Culver ordered that the air rifle be destroyed and that Wallace pay $73 court costs.

In May 2006 Wallace was one of four officers who travelled to Adelaide to interview seven men of interest in relation to the death of a Queensland woman, Dianne Brimble, who died on a P&O cruise in September 2001.

Ms Culver said firearms offences needed to be taken seriously due the potential for accidents. However, she noted that none of the ammunition could be used in the firearm found in Wallace's home and the offences were at the lower end of the range of seriousness.

I'd expect LEO's to lead by example in giving up their (non-duty) guns first

They said in the last paragraph that none of the ammunition found is for the air rifle.

I think they should also ban big rocks, sharp edges, and spit wads.

All that means is they didn't find his gun.
They found the toy, but not the gun.

Of course, what good is a gun now that they've got his ammo, but I digress.

There is such a thing as cartridge-fed airgun. The cartridges are flled with compressed air and the firing pin opens a valve.

No one is ever:
stabbed,
strangled,
beaten with rebar,
or drowned
in Australia.
The sole menace
is the gun.

Without the gun, Australia would experience "Peace on Earth"

Every Man Should Have A Rifle

So I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb,
Seeing visions "over yonder" of the war I know must come.
In the corner - not a vision - but a sign for coming days
Stand a box of ammunition and a rifle in green baize.
And in this, the living present, let the word go through the land,
Every tradesman, clerk and peasant should have these two things at hand.

No - no ranting song is needed, and no meeting, flag or fuss -
In the future, still unheeded, shall the spirit come to us!
Without feathers, drum or riot on the day that is to be,
We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations by the sea.
While the bitter parties stifle every voice that warns of war,
Every man should own a rifle and have cartridges in store!

Since when did an air rifle become a Firearm?

I believe that Saint Paul, and possibly other juristictions, have placed slingshots, air rifles, BB guns, wooden cut-outs in a pistol shape with rubber bands attached, gasoline or other flammable liquid in non-approved containers, and a pointed index finger as "firearms". They use the same tortured logic to stifle free speech by calling it "terroristic threats", even if nothing more is uttered than "Good morning officer."
