Quote: Boy, 14, dupes police, patrols Chicago for 5 hoursCHICAGO (AP) — A 14-year-old aspiring police officer donned a uniform, walked into a Chicago police station and managed to get an assignment — patroling in a squad car for five hours before he was detected, police said Sunday. The boy did not have a gun, never issued any tickets and didn't drive the squad car, Deputy Superintendent Daniel Dugan said. Assistant Superintendent James Jackson said the ruse was discovered only after the boy's patrol with an actual officer ended Saturday. Officers noticed his uniform lacked a star that is part of the regulation uniform. Police said they were investigating how the deception went undetected for so long in what they described as a serious security breach. Police didn't identify the boy because of his age. He has been charged as a juvenile with impersonating an officer. Dugan said the boy looks older than 14 and was motivated by a desire to be an officer, not malice or "ill intent." The boy once took part in a Chicago program for youth interested in policing, so he would have been familiar with some procedures, perhaps helping him blend in, police spokeswoman Monique Bond said. Times are tough, I suppose the department will take what they can get!

The 14 y/o was probably a more trustworthy cop than the Atlanta Police Academy graduates!

Sorry, I find it scarry. Imagine a home invasion or a store robbery and the kid, mind you sans gun, gets out with his "partner" who tells him to cover the back or to provide back-up or let your mind run. How could the officer miss it for 5 hours? He should be fired as well. This is not good.

Gosh, he could have shot up the entire squad room.

Well this is Illinois, not really known for its upstanding politicians and crime fighters. Probably isn't the biggest thing they've overlooked in the past few years. Too bad for them that stories like this get out. I'm not exactly shedding tears for them though.

I have no clue what either of you are referring to. Guns are not allowed within the City of Chicago limits. Therefore, no need for the 14yo "officer" to need a gun for duty, and obviously no chance of him having a gun to shoot up the squad room.
I mean really guys, there are no guns in Chicago.

Yes, when the police in Chicago are called to a scene and the criminal has a gun. They do of two things:
KEEP DRIVING
or
RUN
No guns, it's for the safety of the people!
