PITTSBURGH -- An off-duty officer was treated at a hospital after accidentally shooting himself at home, Pittsburgh police said.

Homicide detectives initially responded to the call at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The injured officer told them he was unloading another officer's service weapon when it accidentally went off, according to a police news release.

A bullet struck one of his hands and became lodged in a wall, according to the officer's account.

He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian and later discharged in good condition. Meanwhile, the weapon was removed for processing by investigators.

The officer's name and the location of his home were not disclosed by police. He's identified only as an 18-month member of the city's police

A back story? I am having a hard time imiagining a scenario where an off duty officer is unloading a different officer's weapon. Also kind of hard to get the hand in front of the muzzle and follow basic safety. . . . I know rickoshit happens but it seems like they woulda said if that was the case.

I wonder what the BAC was?
