DALLAS (AP)—The police officer who pulled out his gun and threatened an NFL player with jail instead of allowing him inside a hospital where his mother-in-law was dying resigned Wednesday.

Officer Robert Powell had been placed on paid leave pending an investigation of the March 18 incident.

It sounds like he wasn't getting any support from his superiors (which is good, he didn't deserve any), but they didn't have any justifiable reason to fire him.

I'm sure there were enough other ways to make his job miserable enough to get him to quit, and I'm also guessing that fellow officers probably followed the lead of the brass on this one.

Poor guy will have to come up and join the MPD if he wants a medal for that kind of behavior.

No, he would have to recklessly discharge his gun to get a medal. He would have just gotten a citation for this one.

Either way, it's somebody who shouldn't have a badge no longer having a badge. That's a good thing.
