Former Chisholm cop arraigned on murder charges

Duluth News Tribune

A former Chisholm police officer was arraigned Friday on a first-degree murder charges after being indicted by a grand jury earlier this week.

Jason Mark Musburger, 47, of Chisholm is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, harassment or stalking, violation of a restraining order and possession of a pistol without a permit …

… According to police reports, Musburger had three confrontations with patrons of the Chisholm bar on the evening of March 6. In one, he flipped the baseball cap his ex-wife was wearing off her head and called her a derogatory name …

… Musburger told investigators he felt humiliated by what happened in front of his ex-wife …

… He fired one shot into the chest of the 40-year-old Walberg, killing him. He fired two shots into Nelson's torso, critically injuring him, and one shot into the shoulder of Elj, who grappled with him.

To read all about the other details, including the fact that he brought two weapons of differing calibers (highly trained firearms specialist, after all), you must following the link, go to Duluth, and read all about it from the "source", who then let the Pioneer Depress write about it, but we must be oblique in our reference of the story.

If I recall the story correctly, the shooter here had not been recently employed as a police officer.

This is eerily similar to a bar shooting I responded to in Turtle River in 1992. That one ended up with the badguy shot dead by my partner. He killed two and wounded two first, however.

In my case, the shooter was an active Red Lake Reservation LEO who was on suspension.
