I thought about putting this in "Isolated Incidents" but decided it'd be better here...

The reason I was going to put it in "Isolated Incidents" was this little gem relating to "special people"

"Clanton said no criminal investigation will be done since the shooting was accidental."

Think us "ordinary people" would get that break?

It's hard to believe the possibility/probability of Criminal Neglegence should not at least be investigated. He admits he was handling his gun, (loading/unloading) and he would have a duty to have it pointed so a discharge would not hit someone.

I think if he was a private citizen the probability of an "investigation" would be 100%, and the probability of charges resulting would be about the same.

Any investigation would reveal neglegence and then they'd have to charge him.

This is one time we can't blame the PROSECUTOR or a GRAND JURY.

The POLICE are responsible for this one. Usually they do a little inconclusive indentification, and the prosecutor presents a secret and weak case to a grand jury, and they come back with 'no bill". Here even that didn't happen.

A true Isolated Incident, with police solely responsible for the result. Rural Georgia good ol' boys.

Accident or not he should be held responsible for the round that left HIS gun. I do not see him being accountable for the incident at least not in this story.

Your first instinct was correct. This was special treatment for special people.

At the very least a violation of the 4 rules, and not to be too sarcastic, but unloading your gun by pulling the trigger is not the way the manual teaches it.
