He added that secure parking is provided on a case-by-case basis. "AUSA safety is an important priority to [the Executive Office] and the Department," he said.

Awwww. The poor, poor special people need special rules to be extra special. Here's a good idea: Let all law-abiding citizens carry wherever they want. Then the special people won't need special rules!

Status symbols. A guy I know became a parole officer in another state. The one thing he's most proud of is that he gets to carry a gun! He's not a gunnie, so he's pretty impressed with himself. You can't talk to him for 5 minutes without him bringing up the matter. I'd never let that blabber mouth know lots of other folks carry too.

There was a dust-up not too long ago about another special group of people being able to carry guns. It might have been off-duty or retired cops. The discussion I remember occured over at THR or TFL. Anyway, the argument in favor was: more guns = good. The argument against was: special guns = bad. As I recall, the vast majority of people in favor were cops/retired cops. The vast majority of people against were non-LE. There should never be any special treatment of a group of people based on occupation, social status or any other quality. They want to carry? They should get off their asses and lobby for all of us. We should ALL be able to carry ANYWHERE. Their special, big-shot job DOES NOT make them more important than my wife and kids. Tami has jury duty right now. She can't carry in the courthouse. Neither should they.

Actually, defense counsel are more likely to be hurt by unhappy clients. But they aren't part of the great big LE family.
